Hospitality students visited Sofina Foods Ltd (Young’s Seafood) in Grimsby as part of their workplace skills programme.
During the visit, students were given a guided tour of the fish processing facility, providing a unique opportunity to observe the latest technology used within the food processing industry. Before entering the production areas, students experienced the strict hygiene and presentation standards expected within the industry.
The tour followed the journey of the product from the intake of raw materials through processing, coating and packaging, giving students an insight into the full production process behind a range of fish products and the strict quality assurance processes. The visit concluded with an informative employability session, where students learned about the skills, qualities and requirements needed to work within the industry, as well as the variety of career opportunities available.
This real-world experience has enhanced students’ understanding of workplace expectations, professional standards and the diverse career pathways within the food manufacturing industry!
