Day 4 – Alice Adams
Heritage Open Day Video Series
Today’s story takes us back to 1921 and introduces us to Alice Adams, one of the many people who worked for the Sleight family.
The Friends of Weelsby Hall’s research has identified more than 700 people who were working for the Sleight family at the time of the 1921 census.
Of those people, less than 6% were women and more than half of them worked as net braiders or needle fillers.
This is the story of 15-year-old Alice Adams, who worked for George Sleight in his net braiding room in Hope Street.
