Day 2 – Ellen Stephenson
Heritage Open Day Video Series
Today, we continue our eight-day journey through local history with the story of Ellen Stephenson, who worked as a housekeeper at Weelsby Hall.
Work opportunities were limited for women in the 1920s, but an experienced housekeeper was worth her weight in gold.
Having managed her own household for many years, twice-widowed Ellen Stephenson turned to domestic service when she needed to earn a living and went on to work in a number of fine houses in Lincolnshire, including Weelsby Hall.
