Teamwork, Challenges and Campfires at the Eco Centre!

15 students from Linkage College, along with staff, enjoyed a fantastic team-building day at the Eco Centre, taking on a series of practical challenges designed to develop teamwork, communication, responsibility, resilience and problem-solving skills.

The day began with each team being given an extra team member to look after – a ‘baby’ chicken egg! Teams had to work together to keep their new responsibility safe throughout the day. Sadly, not all of our ‘babies’ made it to the end, but it certainly provided plenty of laughs and tested everyone’s teamwork and responsibility!

Students then learned how to light fires using flint and strikers before working together to keep the campfire burning. They also used Kelly Kettles to boil water and make drinks, developing practical skills while working safely as a team.

Next up was a raft-building challenge. Using natural materials collected from the woods, teams designed and built their own mini rafts before putting them to the test on the water. There were some very creative designs and plenty of friendly competition!

The teams then took on the challenge of building woodland dens, using materials they had collected themselves. But would they keep out the rain? Paul, the Eco Centre leader, arrived with a watering can full of ‘rain’ to put each shelter to the test!

The day finished around the campfire with toasted marshmallows, lots of laughter and a chance to reflect on the brilliant teamwork shown throughout the day.

A huge thank you to the Eco Centre team for another fantastic day of hands-on learning, and to all our students and staff for getting involved and supporting one another.

Learning, teamwork, resilience, responsibility and plenty of fun – what a day!
